Who Am I?

My name is Secret Agent Lu.

I was born in the city of Melbourne, Australia and lived there quietly for a long period of time.

Then one day I moved to Tokyo to work, live and be re-born. But my journey was far from over; I moved even further away to a small old world city called Mantua in Northern Italy. I continue to reside there, even though my relationship with this medieval town is not always sunny. Indeed, Mantua is famous for its fog and its elevated levels of industrial air pollution (cough, cough)…and the waterways are pretty disgusting, too.

But here I am, and I have many things to distract me: an Italian husband, my work as a teacher and translator, visits to fascinating cities (some of which I blog about), my neurotic tendencies, books, food, feet, science and my iPhone.

Thank you for stopping by and reading.

It’s so nice to read your blog! My family and I are moving to Mantua for a year from Montana, USA. Do you think it’s a good choice for young children? Also, they will be put into the School of the Redeemer so they will be immersed in the language. Thoughts on that? Any helpful hints or comments would be appreciated! Thanks so much, Daphne

      Hi Daphne!

It’s an interesting question. Mantua is a very small town and the people can sometimes be very “closed”. In general, Italian schools are old and light years behind in their teaching methods (this is mainly because of a lack of government spending). On the other hand, there are some very nice people here and the town is relatively safe. Also, American culture is very popular (films, music, fashion). The advantage of the school you mentioned is that it is small and the children really get to know each other.

Thank you for your reply! Seems like perhaps my question is a little too broad for just an email comment. I appreciate you trying to tackle it in a few words.

I will be on the lookout in your blog for more insights on Mantua and Italy.

Thank you for your like on my blog. I enjoyed reading about your skiing and your many photos of food! It amused me because you build up such an appetite when out of the piste! Have fun!
