My White Christmas

After all the madness of the past few months (work, study, arguments, buying a new house and various other things) it was soooooo wonderful to get away for a few days.

We escaped to our usual Christmas haunt: the lovely village of San Vigilio di Marebbe in the Italian Dolomites.  This year there was an abundance of snow.  What a wonderful Christmas gift. (Shove off Santa – I have no interest in your tat.)

I had one of those silly arguments with Signor Lu as soon as we got onto the motorway. Something about the confined space of the car, where no one else can hear you (except for your travel companion), turns me into a raving lunatic for a few minutes…but after my outbursts I’m fine and ready to enjoy the journey. And Signor Lu seems to be the same.  He joins in on my slightly hysterical rants and helps me to see reason.

The motorway that leads to the mountains.

We always stop at the same place along the way and we always order the grilled trout for lunch. And berries and icecream for dessert. (We’re on holiday so it’s OK to have dessert at lunchtime. Besides, this is one of our Christmas traditions.)

Lunch at a roadside restaurant: grilled trout.

Hot berries with cold vanilla icecream. One for two (no really darling, you can have the last spoonful.)

Snow in the restaurant carpark.

The best kind of Christmas trees.
