Summer in Vienna

For Ferragosto (the mid-August holiday) we went to Vienna and lived like Hapsburgs for the weekend. (The poorer, disinherited side of the family, that is Occhiolino.)

For a smallish city (population less than 2m), Vienna has a lot for tourists to see, do and eat.  Just as well, because there were A LOT of tourists there last weekend.

And, seduced by the city’s treasures and history, we readily played our parts as tourists.  We waltzed around the palaces, ate Viennese cakes and stood before Vienna’s great works of art and gave them a  superficial analysis (in mock homage to Freud).

Yes, Vienna is a well-oiled tourist trap but it is a delightful and stimulating one.

I hope to go back for more one day. Until then, more blog posts on Vienna will follow this one.

I keep telling my friends that Vienna is my most favorite city in Europe (by far). I went there in 2007 and fell in love with the city ever since.
